How to Make Your Own Canvas Prints
Do you have a prized photo that you want to put up as centrepiece art work? Or do you want to display several images on your photo wall? Then you can have them printed on canvas. If you have the right supplies and equipment, you can make your own prints rather than pay a canvas printer to do it for you. First, check your home printer’s instruction manual if your unit is capable of printing canvas. Normally, an inkjet printer that can produce prints that are 13 to 19 inches wide is sufficient. Determine the size of the image as needed.
Next, from your computer, open up an image that you like to print. Using a high-quality photo software, you can crop, resize, adjust the colour saturation, add special effects, or enhance the image. One thing to take note of is that when you are cropping or resizing the photo, leave a 1-inch border around it. This will make your print more visible on the canvas.
Once you are done altering the image, do a test print with regular paper. Adjust the measurements, colours, and settings of the photo if necessary so the print can come out as expected. When the final draft comes out satisfactorily, you can now load the actual substrate. But before doing so, make sure the edges are smooth and even by cutting out stray fibres. In addition, be sure to wear disposable rubber gloves to avoid getting fingerprints and oils from your skin on the canvas. Finally, print the photo and let it dry naturally. Have it framed and you now have a cool-looking artwork that you can be proud of.
